Do you have a Face-Book account? Are you linked in to Linked-in? Have you twittered anyone today? Do you even know what I’m talking about here? Senior communicators, such as myself, have to take a step back from our traditional expertise and jump into the future. Think of your clients’ customers. Yes, there are still a lot of us Baby Boomers around, but are you addressing the Generation X-ers and Y-ers? Today’s technology requires we enter the social networking arena for our clients. You may have heard of viral marketing but not really known what it means. It means using existing social networks to increase brand awareness and spread the word (kind of like a virus spreads germs).
In addition to media relations (writing press releases, feature articles, etc.); marketing collateral and copywriting; white papers; speeches; website content, etc., you need to know the other numerous publicity opportunities you can use today through social networking, online article placement and website marketing through webinars, e-books, blogs and more. This isn’t rocket science, so even if you feel you’re a troglodyte when it comes to new online opportunities, a great amount of help is available.
Me, for example!
I have provided writing and communications/PR for corporations, agencies and on my own for more than 25 years. During that time, I have composed and managed many PR plans for clients and have written a multitude of feature articles, editorials, press releases, marketing collateral, issues management and white papers, speeches, etc. That’s the traditional stuff. Additionally, I am very happy to report that my repertoire now includes e-books, e-classes, web content and blogs on a variety of business, job search, self development and special interest topics.
